Being raised in a small mountain community Kim was given the opportunity to experience the closeness that comes with a small town atmosphere. This feeling continues into her life today with the people she meets immediately becoming a part of her extended family. Being physically active all of her life, she grew up skiing, both on the water and snow. Kim began her sailing experiences in 1989 and her teaching career as a fitness and aerobics instructor in 1992. She has been actively involved in the field of transformational growth for 15 years and as a student of life, Kim embraces the concept of “wisdom through experience”. As her life evolved with transformational work and fitness, she found the practice of yoga to be the perfect combination of bringing the mind, body and spirit together. She continues her work of transformation using the body as a guide: physically, emotionally and energetically. She began formally practicing, studying and teaching yoga during the winter of 1999 while living in Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico.
Returning to her hometown in Idaho in 2000 she continued teaching while her self study grew. In 2003 she completed a yoga teacher training in Miami Beach with Synergy Center for Yoga & the Healing Arts receiving her certification under a Yoga Alliance Registered School. Her studies include Iyengar, Ashtanga, Bikram and Sivananda as well as Pranayama, Sanskrit, partner & pre-natal yoga and yoga philosophy. While she has studied with some note worthy teachers, she continues to believe that her greatest teachers are her students.
Kim blends together the various styles of yoga she has studied along with her personal experiences to bring to life her own eclectic style of yoga; ones own body, the rhythm of the breath and adaptation are the foundation for a well rounded class accessible to all levels of yoga practice. She has been teaching full time since October 2004.
In addition to her full time yoga schedule, Kim released her first book in February 2007; Yoga Onboard a guide for cruisers and live-aboards. Being passionate not only about yoga but about sailing, she brings these two loves together through seminars, workshops, her book and DVD. Her ideas on adaptation can be applied to any circumstance or location. You can find Kim on Latitudes & Attitudes TV sharing Yoga Onboard tips with viewers and read her Healthy Cruising column in Latitudes & Attitudes Magazine.
Kim has a Bachelor of Arts in the Social Sciences from Boise State University. Her daughter Erika lives in Seattle, Washington with her husband Skyler and her son Dallas lives in their hometown of McCall, Idaho. When she is not sailing or teaching yoga she can be found hiking and “exploring the outdoors.
Kim’s schedule has included 17 hours of yoga, meditation and breathing classes at the popular Canyon Ranch Spa & Resort, power-vinyasa classes at Sports Club LA & Equinox, beginning vinyasa classes at Shake-A-Leg Miami and yoga seminars at all Sail America Boat Shows in addition to various cruisers gatherings, sailing clubs and workshops nationwide.
Kim is currently living in The Florida Keys on her sailboat Ave de Paso with her boyfriend, musician Eric Stone and birds Harley & Marley.
